Huawei Mate SE is an improved Honor 7X, now available in the U.S. for $229

To say Huawei’s year started off a little rocky is an understatement. The company had their big AT&T launch crushed the day before their CES keynote speech. The situation got even worse when the FBI, CIA, and NSA advised against using Huawei phones on U.S. carriers. The good news for Huawei fans in the U.S. is they aren’t backing down so easily. Their latest device is the Huawei Mate SE. It’s an improved version of the Honor 7X available now from Amazon.

The Huawei Mate SE looks and feels almost identical to the Honor 7X, which was launched last December. The specs, however, have been improved. It has a 5.9-inch 1080p display with 18:9 aspect ratio. The Kirin 659 processor is still on board, but RAM has been bumped up to 4GB (from 3GB) and storage is now 64GB (from 32GB). The camera is the same dual 16+2MP setup. We liked the Honor 7X in our full review and these small spec improvements should make it even better.

Like mentioned above, the Huawei Mate SE is available from Amazon in the U.S. You can buy it right now for $229.99, which is $30 more than the Honor 7X and $20 off the regular price. The Mate SE is available from Best Buy and B&H for the same price. The U.S. government doesn’t like the idea of Chinese phones on U.S. carriers, but a lot of people think the concerns are overblown. If you’re one of those people, this is a great opportunity to get a quality Huawei phone for a low price.
